This is my first time using Vickie Claytons silks - I found the silk a little difficult to work with at first and was having problems with it knotting up at the back, which was annoying when I didnt notice and kept on stitching! - however after I nice stiff drink of Vodka and Lime and a change in technique, I am happy to say things are now progressing along a lot more smoothly!
This is a beautiful sampler and I am enjoying myself immensely while working on it - can you see the little crosses in the star at the top of the hoop - isn't that so pretty?

amazing what a little vodka will fix. It is a beautiful piece, I think it will end up on my Wish List. I love the little stocking up there too, that is a little stocking, isn't it. SO pretty.

ReplyDeleteTry THREAD HEAVEN. Run your silk over the block before you thread your needle. It helps. Really.
ReplyDeleteThat is going to be GORGEOUS! I do love the color you've chosen. I did Quaker Christmas using Vickie Clayton's silks and found them very difficult to stitch with as well. Not only did I have trouble with knotting but fraying of the thread as well. I finally had to start cutting my lengths to stitch with much shorter (6") and this helped greatly. So sad this designer passed away in May.

ReplyDeleteLol! I love how the stiff vodka helped you with the knots! Good girl! I love me some vodka too :D Gorgeous progress so far. I actually loved using her silks. Didn't find they knotted up too badly....but then again I didn't use red. I find with red threads, any kind, they usually knot the most. Not sure why that is!
